The Pounamu Pathway – Māwhera Pā, Greymouth is a world class cultural storytelling experience crafted by Wētā Workshop. An architectural building containing a series of “whare” with different stories of Poutini Ngāi Tahu on the West Coast. Using digital and immersive technology to bring to life Māori legends, settlements, and traditions, offering a captivating experience.
A unique working environment was created where all cultural design, art and stories were created by local Poutini Ngāi Tahu in collaboration with Wētā Workshop.
The Māwhera Pā has changed the perspectives of locals and their relationship with mana whenua. Achieving this through the celebration and storytelling of Poutini Ngai Tahu in a way that has not been done before.
