Tio Ōhiwa is a 100% Māori-owned oyster farm and tourism venture based on the shores of Ōhiwa Harbour in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Rooted in the values of manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga, and whanaungatanga, the experience offers manuhiri (visitors) a uniquely Māori journey across land and sea.
Their signature Shuck’n’Cruise experience combines cultural storytelling, harbour cruising, and hands-on oyster shucking followed by a kai (meal) of freshly harvested kaimoana (seafood). Visitors learn about local history, traditional aquaculture, and the thriving marine life that calls Ōhiwa home.
Every tour is designed to foster connection – with te taiao (the land), with local iwi stories, and with each other. Tio Ōhiwa invites visitors to slow down, learn, taste, and immerse themselves in the rich whakapapa of the harbour.
