Waitutu Forest Lodge is situated south of Fiordland National Park within walking distance of the south coast of the South Island. It’s remote location is a huge part of its appeal. Not only does it sit beside the Wairaurahiri River, but it also offers the experience of being immersed in one of the most significant podocarp forests in the world.
Accessing the Lodge can be a challenge within itself. You can either have an exhilarating Jet Boat adventure down the Wairaurahiri River, or a magnificent 15 minute scenic Helicopter ride or a two day walk along the south coast track. Or you could combine two of those options. While staying at the Lodge, you can take further hikes to explore incredible viaducts, or a longer forest walk to the Crombie river. A shorter one hour walk, introduces you to what podocarp is all about.
The Lodge accommodates 21 guests, is self catering, and to the owners, a true taonga that we enjoy sharing with many of our guests from all over the world.
