Northern War Tours

Northern War Tours offers battle site visits of the Northern War of 1845–46 in the Bay of Islands. The experience is a two-day tour with an overnight stay in Paihia. Visitors learn about the tactics and strategies of the British and Māori combatants, how the war began, and its consequences.

The tour explores the bicultural relationships of Aotearoa’s first permanent European settlement, including missionaries and whalers, inter-iwi conflict, women on the frontier, great chiefs and British commanders, the soldier and the sailor, the Treaty, and concepts of justice in Māori and Pākehā worlds.
