Waitangi Treaty Grounds


Discover New Zealand's birth place. Set in park like grounds overlooking the Bay of Islands, Waitangi Treaty Grounds is New Zealand's most historic site where, in 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between Māori Cheifs and the British Crown. Special features include: Te Whare Runanga (unique meeting house), Ngatokimatawhaorua the world's largest waka (ceremonial canoe), The Treaty House and the new Museum of Waitangi.
