Te Tai Tokerau Northland holds a significant place in Aotearoa New Zealand’s history as the first landing site of the legendary Polynesian explorer, Kupe, whose arrival marked the beginning of Māori settlement in Aotearoa. It is also home to a pivotal moment in the shaping of New Zealand’s nationhood with the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.
