Te Puia

Te Puia is an iconic award-winning cultural and geothermal destinations where Māori culture, geothermal wonder and native wildlife come together in one extraordinary experience.

The landscape is alive with natural geysers, bubbling mud pools, steaming fumaroles and a nocturnal kiwi enclosure which all serve as a dramatic backdrop for cultural storytelling with our guides. At the heart of it all stands Pōhutu Geyser – the largest active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere, erupting up to 30 metres high.

The New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute (NZMACI) has trained wood, stone and bone carvers and weavers for nearly 100 years and these artists and students work to ensure that ancestral knowledge is passed down from one generation to the next.

By night, Te Puia transforms through Mārama: The Geyser Light Trail – an immersive experience where paths, geysers and landscapes are illuminated in a spectrum of colour and light.
