About Us

Māori tourism, as the first impression and final exclamation mark for visitors to Aotearoa New Zealand visitors, is important to NZ Māori Tourism.

The Māori world provides a key point of difference for visitors and entering this world offers a fascinating first impression, a unique connection, and everlasting memories.

NZ Māori Tourism works collaboratively with the Māori tourism sector to ensure visitors arrive as strangers but leave Aotearoa New Zealand as members of our whānau (family).

Our Values

Ngā Mātāpono or The Values we uphold:

Mana Tangata

This term refers to the prominence of a person - mana tangata - and expresses the 'people first' approach in all we do.

Manaaki Manuhiri

Māori culture places great emphasis on hospitality. The care of visitors - manaaki manuhiri - is important to our culture and in providing the best tourism experiences.

The leadership we practice - rangatiratanga - stems from our knowledge of our world and the ability to meet our responsibilities. We aspire to develop exemplary governance, and leadership.

Our country is the life source of our people. The guardianship - kaitiakitanga - of this land requires that we maintain and protect our environment for future generations.

We have developed a close relationship with the Māori tourism sector - whanaungatanga - through shared experiences and working together collaboratively and collectively.
