Rotorua Sight-Fishing Adventures

+64 21 023 67469

Nau mai haere mai and welcome. Let local fishing legend Dion James guide you on a trout fishing adventure to remember. He’s Lived and fished locally for nearly 20 years and has the luxury of fishing these waters for years gaining invaluable local knowledge and a reputation for catching the infamous big wild Rotorua Brown trout.
Rotorua has a superb unique fishery, home to both wild rainbow and brown trout available in abundance in the region boasting 13 fishable lakes and many spring fed streams. With Lake Rotorua being one of the shallowest and populous of trout lakes in NZ, the intense summer temperatures warm the lake up driving trout to congregate in mass numbers into the stream mouths and streams to seek refuge. This is where the fishing can be spectacular, especially in the small crystal clear spring fed tributaries with Brown trout averaging a healthy 6-7lb and growing into double figures, being able to see them and sight fish for them is what the regions fishery is renown for. If that’s not enough the cooler months are equally superb whilst the fish stay upstream to spawn in mass numbers it is a sight to behold in a once in a lifetime adventure!
