Ngātiwai, Ngātihine, Ngāpuhi nui tonu, Pākehā Dorothy lives in beautiful Matapouri village on the east coast of Te Taitokerau. She teaches weekly Shakti Naam Yoga classes at the Yoga Circle studio in Whangarei as well as regular online groups. Her background experience includes Māori Contemporary Dance and tertiary teaching in both Applied Arts and Maori Visual Arts. Well-being, arts and culture remain a strong focus for Dorothy who maintains a creative practice in uku (clay) making, firing and showcasing her work primarily with Māori and other indigenous native, creative artists. Dorothy is motivated by her personal experience of Naam yoga and the positive health benefits gained; and is inspired by other Naam teachers and the founder of Naam yoga, Dr Joseph Michael Levry. She hopes the “E mara mā” sessions will resonate with other Māori and help inspire a heartfelt inner experience to creative life force energy – Mauri – through yogic breath, movement, rhythm and sound practices. |
