The Education Project Team at Waitangi is developing a suite of Inquiry Units for years 1 to 10, covering the full breadth of the curriculum. Drawing on their expertise in the education and culture and heritage sectors, the content developers aim to provide resources that can be used by teachers across the country.
Waitangi Treaty Grounds CEO Greg McManus says the new curriculum is a very exciting initiative and Waitangi is keen to be at the forefront of its development. “Anything that enhances New Zealanders’ understanding of our shared histories is positive in my mind. We are delighted to have won this contract to help shape the new curriculum and ensure it is relevant and compelling now and in the future.”
Alongside the development of the Classroom Support Materials, Waitangi is offering workshops about Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories, enabling teachers to learn about Te Tiriti and the new curriculum at the Treaty Grounds. The workshops include a Pōwhiri at Te Whare Rūnanga and private guided tours of the Treaty Grounds and Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi.
