Update from today:
Everywhere outside the southern and northern border of Tāmaki Makaurau will move to Alert Level 2 as at 11:59pm on Tuesday 7 September.
Tāmaki Makaurau remains at Alert Level 4 until 11:59 Tuesday 14 September. Cabinet will review the alert level situation on 13 September.
Key points:
- Mandatory record keeping comes into effect from 11:59 pm on 7 September 2021 for everyone aged over 12 at venues where there is close contact: restaurants, hairdressers, museums, and bars, for example.
- Even places where scanning is not mandatory – you are advised to sign in.
- Kura, schools, early learning services and tertiary education facilities under Alert Level 2 open on Thursday 9 September.
- There are no restrictions on who can be included in your household bubble.
- You can go to work, and all businesses and services can open but legally must follow public health rules – physical distancing and record keeping.
- You must wear a mask inside facilities like malls and libraries. In restaurants and cafes it is not mandatory.
- Staff at public facing businesses must wear a mask.
- Hospo and indoor event venues have a limit of 50 people. Outdoor spaces can have up to 100 people. People must keep 1 metre apart. More info here.
- Bars and nightclubs can open with seated service only. Dance floors are closed.
- Gyms, museums, libraries must have 2 metres between people - like the supermarket.
- If you’re travelling from Northland to an area south of Auckland, you are not allowed to stop in Auckland. You will also need to apply for a Business Travel Document.
Golden rules for business at Alert Level 2
- All businesses can operate if they can do so safely.
- Talk with your workers about how you will keep them and others safe from exposure to COVID-19.
- Ask everyone — workers, contractors and customers — with cold or flu-like symptoms to stay away from your premises.
- Keep workers 1 metre apart and customers in retail businesses 2 metres apart.
- Keep groups of customers at least 1 metre apart, or 2 metres for retail businesses.
- Businesses are legally required to display a QR code and provide an alternative contact tracing system.
- We recommend workers wear a face covering if they are in close contact with others.
- Reduce the number of shared surfaces, and regularly disinfect them.
